January - 2007 - the New CARS Tour
Kas reflects on a another year of touring and recording with Meat Loaf, The New Cars and as a solo artist:

"Life is good. Glamourous? No. Enviable? Depends on your perspective.

I'll try and make another short post before I shut down for the holiday. For me shutting down isn't easy, but I think I've earned the right to at least try.

If you'd like to see what driving for 13 hours straight did to me and Phyllis, (Kas drove 1500 miles to do a solo gig in Greenville, South Carolina!) check out these snippets of our trip at http://www.youtube.com/user/kasimsulton

Needless to say, we're excited about this upcoming tour of The New Cars! It's going to be a great summer.

1st - October - 2005 GUITARfest Cascio Interstate Music - New Berlin, WI
It's been a great tour everyone. We certainly had a blast the whole time. These last few shows were fun and it was nice to end here in the states - just means I don't have to travel too far to go home. I've been working with Meat Loaf now for a little over 12 years. The longest I've been in any one band. It's been a real treat for me to have started as a keyboardist & rythym guitarist, then to go on to become the Bassist and Musical Director, a position I'm more accustomed to.

I'll be letting you all know very soon what the next few months have in store for me. In the meantime, check out my new K Sulton Signature Bass from Archer. It's Road Tested and ready to go! Check back here frequently for further updates.

21st - September - 2005 Orlando, Florida - Bob Carr Performing Arts Center
American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert
Oglethorpe Speedway Park - Savannah, GA - Friday, September 16th, 2005

We're winding down here. We've only got five more shows to go on this tour which started WAY back in MAY! According to my calculations thats a little over four months on the road. Thats a long time in anyone's book. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I love what I do and I thank my lucky stars each and every time I walk out on that stage.
The one thing that has made this tour even more exciting for me was using a guitar that had my name on it. Taking that Bass through it's paces during each show was an experience I won't soon forget and I know, along with the great people at Archer Guitars, we came up with a truly great instrument at an affordable price.

Summer tours. Lots of fun. Open air venues, everyones family coming to the show at one point or another, the kids, the laughs ... it's all good.
I've been doing this now for the past 29 summers give or take a few. Here in this country and abroad and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

15th - August - 2005 Mohegan Sun Casino - Uncasville, CT
Thankfully we're done with casinos for the time being. If I had to listen to one more bell ringing incessantly I was gonna scream. Onto Boston and a few open air shows!

13th - August -2005 - Borgata Casino - Atlantic City, NJ
Casinos ... lovely. Isn't life enough of a gamble without having to watch people toss money away like it grows on trees? Thankfully, I'm not so inclined. The way I figure it, these places will do just fine without my cash. Although having said that I did bet a little and ... summarily lost it.

11th - August - 2005 - Casino Rama - Orillia, Ontario, Canada
After a eight week tour in the UK and Germany I was overdue for a break. We got home on July 22nd and I had to decompress for a few days.
All said, the shows in Europe went really well. Packed houses everynight and lots of time off to lounge around or go sightseeing. Me? I've been to most of these places numerous times so there really isn't a whole lot for me to do on days off other than read, eat and sleep.
I managed to squeeze in a few Movin' Out performances while I was on my break. It was great to be welcomed back into that show. I'll miss doing it once the play closes later this year.

16th - July - 2005 - Warwick Castle - Warwick, England
15th - July - 2005 - Blickling Hall - Norfolk, England
We played the last of the "Stately Homes Concert Series" this weekend. It wasn't without some drama as well.

One of the guitarists from the opening band, Hurricane Party, was looking for a nice place in a field to have a bit of a lie down. He chose a shaded spot behind a small Land Rover truck just outside of the backstage area. He was resting quite peacefully when the driver of the Land Rover needed to move the vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver failed to notice the skinny blond guy sleeping behind his truck and summarily ran over him! Not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. Thats right, he ran over the guy! Amazingly, Johnny the guitarist walked away with only a broken wrist and tire tracks across his back. Oh, and he probably did loose a couple of his allotted nine lives in the process. Other than this little incident (and a few others I can recall) the UK / Euro tour has gone great. Meat has been in top form and the band has been tight.

Where to begin? Lets see ... caught a bad cold in Germany, was bed ridden for a few days. I was in a near tragic plane mishap two weeks ago (ran off the runway after landing) only to wind up 2 blocks away from one of the terrorist bomings in London. We were staying in a hotel near Edgware Road. Other than those three things, I've been having a great tour! We've been playing a series of concerts called "Stately Homes" here in the UK and the shows have been going well. The band sounds great and we're psyched to get to the US to start that leg of the tour. Sorry I've been remiss in my updating duties but I'm sure you can understand the circumstances surrounding my absence!

25th - June - 2005 - Zitadelle - Mainz, Germany
We've been staying in Frankfurt for the last few days. After a long drive back from Rastatt the night before, I had enough time to answer some emails, catch some z's and then get up and do it all over again.
We're lucky enough on this tour to be in a position where we can charter a medium size twin engine turbo prop for our travels from town to town. Yesterday we arrived at the airport for our appointed departure time, had our luggage x-rayed and took a small coach out to the tarmac where our plane was sitting. Our tour manager Bill was informed that the plane wasn't fueled yet and it was going to take at least a half-hour for the fule truck to get to us. Well ... someone (read Meat Loaf) was not at all happy because the plane was extremely hot. We were shuttled back to the private terminal but Meat chose to stay behind to have a 'word' with the fuel truck guy .... uh oh.
Now, I wasn't there ... I got this next piece of info from Bill. It seems that Meat patiently waited until the plane was fueled then, as the guy was shutting the cap and putting the hose back in the truck, Meat nearly took the guy's head off for making us wait an hour past our departure time while he fueled other planes before us!
One thing you DO NOT want to witness, or be on the receiving end of, is Meat Loaf's wrath.
Imagine a 6' 1" guy at 230 pounds coming at you with a very mean look on his face intent on bodily harm! Bill held Meat back, the fuel guy was ready to run but in the end, it all worked out fine and we took off to a 'good riddance' in German from some guy who doesn't know how close to a hospital he had come!

24th - June - 2005 - Rastatt Open Air - Rastatt, Germany
Rastatt, Germany ... a lovely little town about two hours from Frankfurt. I would liken this place to a suburb of a major city, little shops, winding streets and a very 'homey' feel. I was hoping to stay in Munich on our day off because the Todd Rundgren / Joe Jackson tour was due to swing through and I had planned on attending to see my mentor whom I love dearly (that would be Todd). Unfortunately, staying in Munich would have meant a 5+ hour coach ride on the day of the show for us so Meat Loaf decided to do the traveling on the day off instead.

22nd - June - 2005 - Tollwood Festival - Munich, Germany
We were supposed to have the day off here in Munich. Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to travel here knows that this is "old world" Germany. Beer Halls and Brat Stands as far as the eye can see. Lots of guys walking around in Lederhosen. But, Meat Loaf realized if we stayed here we'd have a 5 + hour bus ride on the day of a show so he opted to make the drive on the day off instead.
I wouldn't have minded except for the fact that I had made some plans for the evening. I have been missing the Todd Rundgren/Joe Jackson tour by a few days here and there since coming to Europe and yesterday was the one chance I had to be in the same town as them with a day off on a night they were performing. I was looking forward to seeing Todd and made arrangements to go to the show. Excitement at seeing Todd was replaced by disappointment at having to miss seeing him once again. Truth be told, I wasn't looking forward to a long bus ride on a show day either.

18th - June - 2005 - Ardgillan Castle - Dublin, Ireland
I've been to Ireland many times with Meat Loaf. Each time I'm struck at how lovely this place is. I don't get the chance to travel outside the cities much but the few times I have I'm constantly admiring the countryside, the rolling hills and farmland. The weather here has been great and I'm about to take a walk outside into town and do some window shopping.

17th - June - 2005 - Ravenhill Rugby Ground - Belfast, Northern Ireland
Ireland has got to be one of the prettiest countries on the planet. The rolling hills and quaint towns are unsurpassed in charm and warmth. If you haven't been fortunate enough to vist this place it should definitly be on your list of to-do's.
We're playing in Dublin tonight (JUNE 18TH, 2005 - Ardgillan Castle, Dublin, Ireland) ... same line up as last night.

13th - June - 2005
Right now, were basing the tour out of Manchester, England. On a show day, we'll take a small coach to the airport here, board a private plane, fly to an airport nearest to the venue and coach it to the Venue.
We did this yesterday as the show we're doing was in Holland. So it was up by noon, on the coach by 2, on our plane at 3. We flew into Muenster, Germany then had to take another coach one and a half hours to the Festival site. We got there in time to grab a bite to eat and catch the Crosby, Stills & Nash set before having to change for our show.
I was watching CSN play when my tech Charlie came over and pointed out the Organist on stage with them, he asked if I knew who it was. He said it was Mickey Finnegan and I about fell over.
For those of you who don't know him, he played with Jimi Hendrix. You can hear his playing on Voodoo Child Revisited. The guy is a legend playing with other legends. Man, I bet HE has some stories. The solo he did in "Carry On" was priceless.
All in all, yesterday was more traveling than anything else and now I have a few days off to wander around Manchester, go to the movies, and find some nice restaurants.

8th - June - 2005
I'm playing the Arrow Rock Festival in Holland this weekend and will have a lot of material and pictures for you by Monday, June 13th.
I plan on compiling everything Sunday and sending it off then.
