Kasim
Sulton has managed to be involved in many monumentally successful
recording and touring projects while still maintaining his street
credibility with pop's fickle cognoscenti. He's done it two ways;
by laying relatively low, eschewing the interview treadmill and
starmaking machinery that regularly makes Soylent Green of lesser
artists, and by flat-out having the goods ... the man can play,
he can write and he can sing, and he does all three exceptionally
well.
Presently,
Kasim is doing what he does best. Everything. All at once! As you
know, 2005 finds the talented Mr. Sulton deeply involved in the
development of the Archer K Sulton Signature Bass. As you're reading
this, Kasim is on the road in Europe serving as Music Director,
bassist and vocalist for multi-platinum recording artist, Meat Loaf.
Not one to do anything halfway, Kasim has been in constant contact
with us at Archer as we endeavor to "Road Test" the K
Sulton bass prior to its fall debut and your chance to own it!
When he's not on the road with Meat Loaf, Kasim continues his long
association as bassist/vocalist with mega-producer and cult favorite
musician Todd Rundgren. In addition, Kasim also plays on Broadway
for Billy Joel's hit musical revue "Movin' Out" and manages
to be a happy husband and father for his family in Staten Island,
New York.
Did
we mention Kasim's solo career? THIS is one motivated human being
in case you hadn't noticed! Kasim has recently inked a deal with
Sanctuary Records. This attentive and venerated label is planning
to re-release Kasim's much-lauded "Quid Pro Quo" solo
effort and is also scheduled to release new Kasim Sulton material
in the near future!
So
... here's a very successful artist, touring Europe, designing his
own signature guitar, playing on Broadway, planning another solo
release, working with the biggest names in music. He truly is living
the dream. But how did it all get started?
Kasim
Sulton first appeared on the pop culture radar standing directly
over ground zero of the revolutionary glam rock movement in the
70's as bassist for scenemaker and David Bowie publicist Cherry
Vanilla. A staple of popular rock magazines of the day such as Creem
and Hit Parader, Cherry Vanilla offered Kasim an invaluable introduction
into the world of rock music and a perfect platform from which to
transition to the next level in his career.
A
bit of networking and a bit of chance led to a fateful audition
for Todd Rundgren's prog-rock project, Utopia. Kasim got the gig
and went on to participate in nine subsequent Utopia releases. This
was a time when serious artists made no real attempt to write hits
per se, yet Kasim managed to pen Utopia's lone Top 30 song, 1980's
"Set Me Free."
Kasim's
membership in Utopia and association with Todd Rundgren also afforded
him the chance to play on one of the biggest selling records of
all time; Meat Loaf's legendary Bat Out of Hell. Needless to say,
being part of an album that sold 48 million copies has a way of
increasing one's profile! Still, Kasim is not one to rest on his
laurels. He spent the 80's immersing himself in projects for a myriad
of high-profile artists such as The Indigo Girls, Mick Jagger, Patti
Smith, Patty Smyth, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and others.
Now
a respected journeyman, the 90's saw no decline of demand for Kasim's
services. The first to call were blue-eyed soul heros Hall and Oates,
who sought out Kasim's services for their Unplugged tour. Then,
Meat Loaf got in touch again, hoping a little of the Sulton's magic
might rub off a second time. It did, and the association continues
to this day.
In
the 90's, getting the call from Celine Dion was about as big as
it gets. Love her or loathe her, you'd be hard pressed to deny her
incredible worldwide success, and it was Kasim Sulton she sought
out to provide background vocals for her "Falling Into You"
release.
Oh, and touring as bassist for rock juggernaut Bon Jovi is no small
footnote in his voluminous resume either.
Kasim's
impressive career achievements and ongoing relevance as an artist
speak for themselves. His commitment and enthusiasm for the K Sulton
Signature Bass make him a perfect endorser for Archer Guitars. We're
proud of our partnership with Kasim and look forward to an exciting
association in the future.
